Budapest: Vandals desecrated a monument to Holocaust victims in the capital of Hungary.

Visitors who arrived this week at the famous 'Shoe Monument' on the Danube in Budapest, were shocked to discover that some of the shoes were gone, and the rest were desecrated by vandals.

These are pairs of bronze shoes which were stolen, as reported by the Budapest Bichon newspaper published in Budapest.

The news caused great anger in the Jewish communities in Europe, experiencing a marked increase in anti-Semitism.

The monument consists of sixty pairs of shoes made of bronze, spread throughout the forty yards along the Danube harbor in the city, a distance of about 350 meters from the Hungarian Parliament.

The monument is reminiscent that during World War II Hungary cooperated with the Germans and executed many Jewish citizens of its initiative. Towards the end of the war, the Arrow Cross members placed Jews on the banks of the Danube and shot them.

Budapest law enforcement authorities informed that they will make every effort to capture the criminals.
