The prisoner Raed al-Jabri was found hanging lifeless this afternoon (Tuesday) at his prison cell in Beersheba.

Al-Jabri, a 37-year-old father of five, was arrested during Operation Brothers Return on suspicion of security offenses, but unlike the rest of the detainees in the operation, belongs to the Fatah movement.

The prisoner's friend in the cell, summoned the prison guards. Guards and MICU team arrived and performed resuscitation which responded in returning his pulse, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Following the suicide, Eshel prison inmates began knocking on the doors in two sections, but stopped after a few minutes. All prisons have kept quiet. Palestinian security prisoners announced that tomorrow they will hold a hunger strike following the death.

The Prison Service has updated the message will be delivered to the Red Cross and also establish a committee of inquiry into the incident.

Al-Jabri was accused of attempting a 'car accident' attack in Gush Etzion in late Tammuz, assault causing injury, abandoning the wounded and endangering human life and was detained.

On Friday 27th Tammuz a Palestinian private car veered towards the Gush Etzion junction, and hit a Jewish girl waiting at a hitchhiking station. Vehicle fled the scene but a short time later the driver turned himself over to the police.
