A heavy mourning fell on the home of Hagaon R' Chaim Kanievsky last night following the death of his daughter Rebbetzin Chana Steinman a"h, wife of his son-in-law Hagaon Rabbi ShragaSteinman, son of Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman.
Thousands began to arrive last night at his home on Rashbam Street for nichum availim.
The times for nichum availim until Sunday morning by R' Chaim were reduced, and R' Chaim will receive condolences at noon from 12: 00 to 13:00, and in the evening from 20:00 to 21:00.
At families Kanievsky and Steinman in the morning from 10:00 to 13:00, from 17:00 pm to 21:00 pm and on Motzaei Shabbos from 21:00 to 22:00.
The entrance for women is around the building on 23 Rashbam Street.
Meanwhile, early this morning Hagry"l Steinman came for nichum availim at R' Chaim. Last night a close associate of R' Aharon Leib, Rabbi Moshe Yehuda Schneider, told that R' Aharon Leib kep silent for a long while after the death of his daughter in law, saying: "To say something you have to think what to say, and not just talk, it is easier to talk about a man, he sat and studied Torah always, but for a woman one should think of what to say."
Rabbi Schneider tells an interesting saying which R' Aharon Leib was told, since many times they had asked her to ask questions of her father R' Chaim and her father-in-law R' Aharon Leib, and once she was asked to ask her father a question, and she did not manage to ask him, and she presented the question to her father-in-law, and said - what does it matter, after all, everything is one Torah.
Family members related that once R' Aharon Leib saw her washing her home floor during chol hamo'ed, and throughout the years R' Aharon Leib's custom was not to wash the house during chol hamoed, for the sanctity of the moed. And he asked her why she was washing the floor on Chol hamoed? She replied: - "Father said that the home of Gadol Hador has to be clean", and one is allowed to wash the floors even during chol hamoed.
