After an investigation, the avrech Nachman Friedman was released this evening (Monday), who claims he was attacked by a policeman. However, the police announced that a criminal investigation will be started against him.
MK Yaakov Asher, (United Torah Judaism), turned to Brigadier General Albert Ohayon deputy head of the Israel Police Traffic Department demanding an investigation into the incident. He said: "The feelings among the haredi public are very serious as a result of the affair." Ohayon promised to review the case.
The incident occurred at around 12:00pm, when according to the avrech's claim, he was attacked by a policeman in civilian clothing from the traffic department who declined to give him a name. He was taken to Maayanei Hayeshua hospital. At the end of tests in the emergency room he was transferred by police car to the Ramat Gan police station where he was interrogated, and a short while ago he was released.
"During an undercover police operation to locate drivers carrying children without legal restraint devices, while risking their lives," police said, "a passenger car was spotted with three little girls that were illegally without belts".
Police refer to the policeman with uniform, "The police officer identified himself to the driver, explained the nature of the offense and the risk involved in it and went to write a report. Despite the policeman's request that the driver and passenger will wait in the vehicle, the two (the older driver and his son) came out and began to rant and scream at him, while they incite other civilians against the policeman."
"The driver refused to sign the report and threw it to the ground", which is not breaking the law, "and when the police officer turned to leave, the passenger grabbed the car door and did not allow him to close it and go."
Police Traffic Department explained that there are minutes that were recorded on video, and that "the policeman tried to explain several times that they were free to leave, but in response, the passenger closed the door tightly on the body of the policeman. The policeman informed the driver of his arrest and due to his opposition had to bind him, reasonable force".
Police spokesman ignore the part documented on video, in which after the avrech was handcuffed, and could not do anything, he was approached by a civilian police officer who declined to identify himself, put his foot to the back of the prisoner, and caught him by the shoulder.
"A criminal case was opened against the passenger and it will be investigated with respect to the allegations. It should be noted that the police will take zero tolerance for violent behavior towards police officers performing operation activities to save lives on the roads."
