After about 22 months of hard work around the clock, digging tunnels giant machine (TBM), broke the longest tunnel in Israel, the part of a fast train line to Jerusalem.

In the coming months, parallel tunnel is expected to be breached, which is the latest tunnel project.

Tunnel No. 3, from Nahal Yitlah to Mevaseret Zion, includes a pair of tunnels of about 11.6 miles each, between Nahal Yitlah and Mevaseret Zion. The tunnels are a significant part of the project, the construction of the railway line from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The project includes the construction of a double track length of 57 kilometers, passing through Ben Gurion Airport and Modiin and come up to the Hauma entrance to Jerusalem, at a cost estimated at 7 billion NIS.

Line travel time will be about 28 minutes, traveling at about 160 mph. First year of operations, the train will operate between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem four trains at each direction during peak hours and will perform approximately 4 million trips a year.

The project includes five tunnels total length of about 37 kilometers and eight bridges with a total length of 6.5 kilometers.

Jerusalem area and the new railway station, the route goes through the line at a depth of about 80 meters below ground. Passengers will stop at ICC compound, using an advanced system of elevators and escalators that lead them quickly to the upper levels of the station.

Twin tunnels will cut through two machines TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) from Germany were brought to Israel in particular, operating in parallel. Each machine length 150 meters and weighs about 1,500 tons, diameter each machine is approximately 10 meters. Each machine was driven from the Ashdod port, through 60 huge lead. Mining execution rate of the TBM machine is about 20 meters per day, which is about 500 meters per month, while a continuous activity throughout the day. The cost of each machine is estimated at 100 million.

Digging of tunnels when the machine is being advanced on special tracks made up for that purpose. Mining Machine Dating turning the dirt with a conveyor system. The significant advantage of the mining machine is assembling concrete rings using a robotic system while performing hydraulic mining. Mining was established to carry out extensive logistics channel for the benefit of the TBM machines each machine provides 1,000 concrete rings a month.

According to Transport Minister Yisrael Katz, "express train from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is in full swing and advanced connecting the capital to the center in 28 minutes. On days when our enemies dig tunnels for death, we are in favor of breaking tunnels for quality of life of the citizens of Israel and strengthening ties with Jerusalem. "

Israel Railways CEO Boaz Zafrir stated that: "This is an exciting inaugural event. Outbreak of the long tunnel in Israel by the world's most advanced technological means proves once again that Israel is investing heavily in the construction of infrastructure in order to change the map of Transportation. Fast rail line between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, will completely change the perception of the distance between two major metropolitan areas in the country, will cut thousands of vehicles off the road and help reduce accidents, traffic congestion and air pollution.
