"You have a great and exalted role," writes Hagaon Rabbi Moshe Tzadka Rosh Yeshiva of Porat Yosef to soldiers at the front, in a letter distributed today in Gaza.
Hagaon Rabbi Moshe wrote in his note: "Dear soldier, a great big role is in your hands, you have a very exalted level to have a share of being a savior and defender of the nation of Israel with the help of the Almighty, and Chazal say that one who saves a single life is as if he saved the whole world, Blessed are you, you were privileged to it." Hagaon Rabbi Moshe wrote, adding, "Now dear fellow soldier, because you go with dedication to saving and protection of the nation of Israel we must mention you, but along with that do not forget to save your soul as well.
"Remember, do not forget you are a Jew, son of Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov, please beware of any prohibition, any sin, honor your precious soul which was carved from under the Heavenly throne, do not humiliate yourself in unwanted, vile and obscene deeds, but do good deeds and know that by your actions you save yourself and all of Israel, remember who was the army of Israel to the point that our sages in the Gemara Menachos, "One who talks between tefillin shel yad to tefillin shel rosh, would return from the war, which means they used to pick soldiers for the war, they did not select only those that have physical fitness but also military spiritual fitness, i.e. those that have no sin because only in that merit did they succeed in war."
At the end of the letter. Hagaon Rabbi Moshe writes: "Indeed, dear soldier, we know well that that you face many trials, but be strong since a Jewish soldier is a warrior on both fronts, he fights against the enemy and he fights his evil inclination, and the war on this front is from the day of his birth to his last day. And now dear soldier, after you are aware of these things and convinced of them, look for your way from books and writers, from books - books of halacha and mussar, and from writers -set one authorized Rav to ask him all the questions and all your reflections, do not refrain or be ashamed to ask him, and thereby you will be safe on your way and win on both fronts."
Today the letters will be distributed by the organization Shalom Ya'ase to hundreds of soldiers in the front along with a set of sweets and other needs of soldiers.
