Horror in Williamsburg: Orthodox yeshiva student was shot Friday night

On Friday night, at 22:00, Naftali Ostreicher, a 24 year old Orthodox yeshiva student was shot by a gentile. The incident occurred on the street corner of White Clymer, Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Student was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, in fair and stable condition, with injuries to his limbs. On Shabbos he underwent surgery.

An initial investigation indicates that the Gentile tried to rob the student, but he explained that he doesn’t have money with him because of Shabbos.

Following the unwanted answer a confrontation began between the yeshiva student and gentile, which ultimately led to the shooting.

Yisrael, the witness said: the yeshiva student shot and his brother in law were at the building and talking, when suddenly the attacker came and demanded their money and mobile devices. One of them explained that because of Shabbos, they do not have anything in their pockets. When he heard it he took out a pistol, but the brother in law managed to escape and call the police for help. Until they arrived, the attacker shot the students legs. The latter tried to confront him to take away the gun and was shot during the chase with another shot to his hand. He began to shout for help and then the attacker started to flee."

Yisrael adds that he heard the screams and managed to get there before the shooter managed to escape. The attacker also tried to shoot him, but thank God he missed it.

After about an hour the police managed to capture the shooter: 27 year old Hispanic.

On Motzei Shabbos the Shomrim issued an easement to the ultra-Orthodox public. The attacker is not a resident of the neighborhood, it said.
