Moses: cuts for yeshivos? EU boycott!

Chairman of the United Torah Judaism MK Menachem Eliezer Moses, referred today in the Knesset plenum to data published, whereby there has been a significant increase in unemployment in the economy, and attacked the cuts policy of the treasury.

"The last budget cut half a billion in the budget of yeshivos, claiming that this budget will be turned to encourage employment for the Haredi sector. In the introduction to the budget, Finance Minister Lapid wrote that the submitted budget is a budget which centers on the working man, and takes care of the working man. They snipped hundreds of millions of shekels, with promises to encourage employment and concern for those who already work."

"Meanwhile, of all these rosy predictions, nothing came. No new jobs were added in the labor market and unemployment was not limited only intensified. Only in recent months, thousands of Israelis were laid off and joined the ranks of the unemployed, and according to Bank of Israel data unemployment will rise next year from 6.1% to 7.1% and tens of thousands more Israelis will join the ranks of the unemployed."

Moses went on to say that "The government is leading an economic policy which irresponsible and without vision. The strong companies in the economy continue to receive tax benefits of billions of dollars from our pocket and still threaten with layoffs! In contrast, smaller companies are collapsing under the weight of taxes, cost of living and the credit crunch, and barely survive. No one thinks to help them at all."

Later he quoted chazal in Pirkei Avos: "'Al de'ataft atafuch, vesof metifayich yetufun'. The moral is that nothing happens by chance, and a person who does bad gets rewarded 'measure for measure'. As interpreted by the Rambam and I quote: "And this is visible at any time and anywhere. Anyone who would do bad will be harmed himself from those bad things themselves which he created."

"This is exactly what happens here. If you thought that through the budget cuts for yeshivos and harming the weaker sectors the economy will perk up and new jobs will be created, reality came and sets in just at the point where you wanted to take care of, and thousands more unemployed are added to the ranks of unemployment."

"We see clearly the measure for measure. On the day you approved the brutal cuts in budget of yeshivos, the EU decided to boycott products from the settlements. One on one."
