Continued legal proceedings of the Hgray"l Steinman attack case: lawyer Azriel Shaul Kravtsov, the suspect's lawyer, said in a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim that he sought to separate civil proceeding and criminal proceeding.
"This is not a criminal proceeding which justifies remand on the case. In a case of a sane person he would be released to house arrest, and would not be seeking to extend the detention until the end of proceedings. Regarding mental problems, he should be hospitalized."
As regards to the eruption and trespass he says, that it is an open home so that there is no outbreak and trespassing.
About the assault he says: "The investigation material shows that the case is very much exaggerated in the media."
And the testimonies of the Rabbi's household members:
Gedaliah Hunigsberg , close to Hgray"l: " At about 5 am he came , opened the door and shouted 'rosh yeshiva, rosh yeshiva, grabbed him by the left hand by the shoulder and started to pull the rabbi. I do not know him; Schneider (chavrusa of the Rabbi) began to pull him back, then Scheinin bit the attacker's hand and he let him go. "
Evidence of Avraham Sheinin, chavrus of Hgray"l: "I saw a man taking hold of the rabbi, who was sitting on the bed. Then the man came into the room, grabbed him and pulled him towards the bed. I bit his hand so he will stop attacking."
Sheinin was asked whether the suspect knew what he wanted from the Rabbi to which he replied: "No, he looks on his face as mentally ill. I did not hear anything."
Amitzi Azur, who was also in the house at the time, testified that the attacker said as he entered the house: "Where is Harav Shteinman, I need him urgently."
All the witnesses said he looked mentally ill.
