Poland: Gentile posed as Orthodox Jewish professor - and arrested

Professor of Judaism at a university in Poland, who was known for years as an Orthodox Jew - was revealed as an imposter and was arrested.

Polish media reported last week on the affair. This is an academic, aged 46, who for years posed as an orthodox Jew and professor of Judaism. He also presented forged Israeli documents which proved that he has the title of Professor.

Thanks to the documents the professor managed to teach in three universities in Poland.

The pretender lived in Krakow, where he grew a long beard and peyos and wore a black skullcap and a long suit as the custom of Hasidim. He managed to slip into the haredi community there and get a job at the local prestigious university as professor in the Department of Religious Studies.

Last week, the police tracked him down and arrested him. It is unclear what his motives were in pretending, but during the impersonation period the professor gained an amount of not less than 40 thousand dollars.

The news of the imposter professor and the police investigation conducted by the police reached various universities in which he taught primarily in Poland, where it was decided that all students who attended his classes will have to learn the course again and retake the examination on the material.
