New Jersey: Detained rabbis will be released to house arrest

Federal Court in New Jersey decided yesterday to release on bail under house arrest Rabbi Mendel Epstein from Flatbush and Rabbi Mordechai Wolmark son in law of the late Zev Wolfson .

Judge Douglas Rafferty decided to release tomorrow, Friday, the two under house arrest with electric devices on their legs including passports and guarantee deposit of five million.

The two were arrested last week during a surprise raid conducted by FBI agents at the home and shul of Rabbi Epstein, rabbinical and Dayan for thirty years, and the home of Rabbi Mordechai Wolmark who lives in the town of Monsey.

They were arrested together with an additional eight orthodox suspects in partnership of acts of kidnapping, abuse, and extortion of recalcitrant husbands.

Arrests took place after a long investigation in which agents posed as a couple who refused a divorce. FBI agent claimed that her husband refuses to give her a divorce. The rabbi and his partner's received details about the spouse who was none other but another agent.

Rabbi's conduct has been recorded amounts of money required for the imposition of divorce.

According to the report, the judge demanded a high guarantee and the wife of Rabbi Wolmark – daughter of the millionaire Ze'ev Wolfson announced that it could raise the bail and that the community fully supports which proves that the rabbi was innocent.

Rabbi Epstein's wife and daughter also attended court also presented before the court which includes real estate property worth about five million.
