Tens of thousands at rally in memory of Harav Ovadia Yosef zt"l

Following the shiva of the President of the Council of Torah Sages, tens of thousands gathered at the intersection of Bar Ilan in Jerusalem and Shmuel Samuel, for a memory and mourning rally .

Sages of Israel, led by members of the Shas Council of Torah Sages and sons of Hgr"o , Sephardic rabbis, rebbes and heads of yeshivas - gathered to pay tribute to the great adjudicator, establisher of the Torah across the country.


The Assembly was opened by Hgr"y Adas, who recited verses of acceptance of the kingdom of heaven.

The only one referring in detail the conduct of the Shas party, after the death of Harav Ovadia Yosef, was the member of the Council of Torah Sages, Hgr"s Cohen.

Concerning party chairman Aryeh Deri, he said: "The Rabbi left a strong man: our friend, Rabbi Aryeh Deri . He trusted him and believed in him and gave him the strength to do what needs to be done."

He also announced the addition of Hgr"d Yosef to the Council of Torah Sages of Shas: "We heard from the Rabbi his wish that Rabbi David will join the Council of Torah Sages."

Hgr"s Amar mentioned in his introduction all the sons of Harav Ovadia.

Hgr"o's son in law, Hgr"a Abutbul served as chairman of the evening.
He was eulogized by: Hgr"m Maya, Rishon Lezion Hgr"a Bakshi Doron, Rabbi David Lau-Chief Rabbi of Israel, Mekubal Harav Benyahu Shmueli, Hgrb"d Povrasky of Ponovicz, Hgrb"m Ezrachi, Belzer Rebbe, Sanzer Rebbe, Hgr"s Cohen, Rishon Lezion Hgr"s Amar, Hgr"y Tupik, Hgrb"z Mozafi and Hgr"a Elbaz.

The Hatzalah clinic situated at the scene treated 32 people suffering from wounds and fainting due to overcrowding.

The scene is being secured by dozens of doctors, paramedics and Hatzalah volunteers with ambulances and motorcycles.

Jerusalem municipality removed all fences division of Bar Ilan road, so too Israeli police demanded the expulsion of all bus stops in the area, after dozens climbed on them during the funeral and endangered their lives.

Media crews from all over the world settled with their vans in front of the main stage.

On the main stage sit hundreds of rabbis. Stage width is about ten meters and thirty meters long. Giant screens are spread throughout and transported by broadcast radio on all Orthodox stations.
