While the Jerusalem Municipality lingers with the decision to name Hakablan Street after Harav Ovadia Yosef, Minister of Transport Israel Katz is ahead of it.
As recalled, as senior member of the Jerusalem Municipality announced to a member of the Yosef family who approached on the matter, that by law one has to wait two years from the death of a person so that the Names Committee can decide to call a street on his name. The senior stressed that in the case of seniors one can shorten the time, but in any case there will not be naming in the coming weeks.
But Minister Katz was ahead and announced that the new entrance to the city, which will be built as part of Highway 16, will be named after the Rav.
Even in this case this is not something immediate, since only next year the construction of a new road will begin, and will end only a few years later, but the decision has been posted.
This is a road that begins at the Motza interchange and passes through a tunnel under the Har Nof neighborhood, reaching the Begin interchange. The road will be another entrance to the capital and facilitate the traffic loads recorded daily on Route 1.
"This entrance which will pass by the Har Nof neighborhood will be symbolic and will connect the two giants - Menachem Begin and Ovadia Yosef in both main entrances to Jerusalem," said Katz.
