Special arrangements for the hesped rally planned this coming Sunday - the end of the shiva of Harav Ovadia Yosef, next to his grave in the Sanhedriya cemetery, in which hundreds of thousands of people are expected to participate.
Today (Friday), Shas chairman Aryeh Deri arrived at 5 Chazon Ish Street, to invite Hagaon R' Aharon Leib Steinman personally to attend the rally. R' Aharon Leib did not respond whether he plans to arrive, one should mention that so far R' Aharon Leib has not come to be menachem aveil at the sons of Harav Ovadia Yosef zt"l.
His family and officials at Degel HaTorah are furious about Shas' advertisement in Hapales newspaper after the death of Harav Ovadia, but stress that there is no connection between this and the visit and R' Aharon Leib decision of whether to attend the rally .
According to the rally organizers, approximately 300 thousand people are expected to participate.
Meanwhile, the Jerusalem District Police conducted traffic arrangements for the rally to be held between the hours of 18:00 to 22:30pm at Bar Ilan Intersection. Thousands of police officers from the county police, Border Police and volunteers with the assistance of reinforcements from other counties under the command of Jerusalem District Commander Yossi Prientie will be deployed from the late morning in Bar Ilan to maintain public order and security, and to direct and enforce traffic regulations.
Starting at 10:00 am Harel Brigade Street will be closed to vehicular traffic, in the section of the street between Sanhedriya to the Mitla Pass. Starting at 15:30 the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic - Yirmiahu, Bar Ilan, Golda Meir, Levi Eshkol and Shmuel Hanavi and the streets leading them. Police recommends that drivers make use of an alternative way of the urban Road #1 and the Begin axis which will remain open throughout the rally, on both sides.
Traffic Police of Jerusalem District announces that it will not allow the entry of private vehicles to the Assembly and calls on those coming to use the transportation system, which will be made available to them. Starting at 14:00 on Sunday, entry to the Sanhedriya cemetery will not be allowed to any unauthorized person. District Police instructs the participants of the rally to be careful and not to go up to high places, including rooftops, antennas and balconies to prevent loss of life. Also, one should not go up to, move, push or change the location of the fences which were dispersed by the police in advance.
Updates before, during and after the rally will be transferred to electronic media by the police. In addition, a public information center will open on Sunday starting at 14:00-23.00 pm, the center shall report to the public on issues related to the rally including traffic arrangements, traffic congestion, and blocked roads.
