The FBI arrested two rabbis: suspected of imposing divorce using violence



U.S. Orthodox community shocked: FBI agents raided yesterday (Wednesday), the homes and synagogues of two rabbis, one from Monsey and the second from Brooklyn.

FBI first raided the home of Rabbi Mendel Epstein. FBI agents arrived at the home of the Rabbi in Flatbush as well as his synagogue, searched and arrested him.

Rabbi was led handcuffed to the police car and taken for questioning.

An hour later, FBI agents raided the home and the synagogue of Rabbi Asher Wallmark, Rosh Yeshiva of Monsey Shaarei Torah.

FBI spokesman in New York confirmed that against the two investigations are underway for some time, and that after investigation it was decided to make the arrests. They also arrested two other people.

It is suspected that they are suspected of a proposal to recalcitrant husbands, kidnapping and torture of thousands of objectors in exchange of thousands of dollars.

Rabbi Mendel Epstein is a well known figure in Flatbush. He serves as a dayan for 30 years and also published a book on women's rights in matters of Gittin - a book which has caused a media controversy.

Public officials are trying together with lawyers to study the issue, and try to release the two rabbis' on bail.
