Yesterday (Tuesday) evening a fatal accident occurred in Brooklyn: Shmuel Eckstein z"l, a 13 year old Orthodox boy, was injured by a passing commercial vehicle. He was taken to hospital, but after about five hours he was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred at around 17:15 (New York time) in Park Slope. Rescue teams reached the scene of the accident and began to provide first aid to the victim, whose condition was very difficult, but was conscious.

Police say the boy who was killed – was hit by a white Chevrolet Express van traveling south. Offending driver remained at the scene, was investigated by the investigators, and at this stage was not summoned for further questioning.
According to estimates, Samuel z"l was in midst of a ball game which drifted into the road. The boy ran after the ball and broke into the road, where he was run over - by the rear tires of the vehicle.

Chesed Shel Emes crew arrived at the hospital, and treated the dead with dignity.

B'Chadrei Charedim learned that Samuel z"l was during preparations for his Bar Mitzvah, which was supposed to take place in a month.

The time of the funeral will be updated later.
