Tal Law set yeshiva students study 45 hours • Gafni and Porush required to reduce 35 to 37 hours • What else will change in the recruitment law?

By decision of the emerging 'Shaked Committee', which discusses the new recruitment law, it appears that the hours required by the Orthodox yeshiva students to devote to learning in Kollel will be reduced Zeev Kam reported in Ma'ariv.

At the committee meeting held yesterday MK Moshe Gafni and Meir Porush demanded, charging the students with a much smaller number of hours that the Tal Law gave them.

While the Tal Law states that the kollel students will learn at least 45 hours a week , haredi MKs requested that kollel hours will be reduced to 35 to 37 hours. During the discussion, the Committee agreed to compromise and reduces the number of learning hours at the kollel to 40 hours per week. Yeshiva students will continue to be committed to studying 45 hours a week.

Hiddush VP Shahar Ilan, said in response: "cut of Torah classes, makes the members of Yahadut Hatorah in the Knesset opposition leaders of Torah study in Israel. After years these MKs tell us how important the study of Torah is to state security and existence, they are attempting to cut rates of a quarter of the Torah scholars for Israel and settle for eighth.

Committee chairman MK Ayelet Shaked, claimed in response that although the Tal Law set yeshiva students study of 45 hours, with the actual regulations, the Minister of Defense stated only 40 hours.

Note that the actual learning sessions featuring many hours in excess of this, and the discussion is the hours required by the state authorities.

Number of hours of yeshiva students is the first issue where changes were compared with the original bill was drafted by Perry committee.
