Morning after: flocking to console and going up to grave

Hundreds of thousands woke up to a grim new reality – Harav Ovadia Yosef zt"l, who was taken yesterday afternoon – is no longer with us.

The funeral ended in the wee hours of the night - when the last escorts left the cemetery in Sanhedriya, and already in the early morning, the first mourners arrived at two locations: some to the mourning tent erected near the house of the Rav on 45 Hakablan Street in Har Nof neighborhood in Jerusalem, to which it is expected that thousands of consolers will arrive during the 'shiva', while thousands of others go up to the fresh grave, the final resting place of the President of the Council of Sages.

For fear of terrorist activity and injury, Israeli police stopped the renovation works carried out for months in the cemetery, and will secure the visitors in place during all the days of ' Shiva'.

As part of police preparations for VIP visits, Hakablan Street is closed to traffic during all hours of the day. Residents of the street will be able to enter by vehicles after showing an ID attesting to their residence.

Among those who came to console were Tzipi Livni, Yitzhak Aharonovitz, Ehud Barak, and the British ambassador to Israel.

Nichum aveilim times are from 10:00 am until 13:00pm, and from 16:00 pm to 19:00 pm. The public is asked to respect the times.
