"R' Aharon Leib is the Chafetz Chaim of our generation"

The assembly of Rabbis of Degel HaTorah in Jerusalem was opened by Hagaon R' Shlomo Neiman, Rav of the Ramot neighborhood, "I did not come to say droshos, but only to tell some facts about the leader of the faithful Judaism, director of the path of Degel HaTorah movement. My father, Rabbi Yitzchak Neiman of blessed memory, who served as rabbi of Kiryat Haim in Haifa, was learning chavrusah in his youth in Brisk in with yblht"a Maran Rosh Yeshiva R' Aharon Leib Steinman and with Hagaon Hagadol R' Yoshe Behr zt"l, son of the Brisker Rov Hagry"z Soloveitchik zt"l. When they were youngsters of about 18, they learned together on Shavuot night, for two nights, the entire masseches Kiddushin, in great toil and hasmodah.

"My father of blessed memory told us that Gedolei Hador in Brisk expressed themselves regarding R' Aharon Leib even as a young boy of 14 years - that 'a new Chofetz Chaim is growing here!" Even then they saw his immense gadlus, a man who is a porush, holy and pure. "Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders and they will relate to you".

"And if the Chofetz Chaim was here today, would anyone dare question him, G-d forbid! Moron R' Aharon Leib is the Chofetz Chaim of the generation, Hashem gave him the power to be the leader of the generation and everyone follows him. I was asked once how an angel looks, and I said to go to his residence and look upon the face of Moron the Rosh Yeshiva, a man who barely eats and mortifies himself all his days, it's noradik! "



Harav Neiman continued: "In the last parsha we read that Hashem made the firmament so that it would distinguish between water and water, "Vayikra Elokim larakia shomayim". Why did He have to look for another name than "rakia"? The Gedolim explain that "rakia" distinguishes, makes a split between water and water, while 'shomayim' makes unity. The Gemara says "What is shomayim, fire and water". The Almighty took the two greatest opposites, fire and water and made them together. The water of the Torah must unite everyone - and the sooner the better."

"When conducting a 'mi sheberach' for a patient we ask that Hashem will send a complete recovery from heaven. Why especially "from heaven"? The pshat is that man was created of four elements, fire, water, earth and wind. When each one is in place, the person is healthy, and when there is an internal war between these components a person gets sick and we ask Hashem to send a recovery from heaven, as heaven made union between fire and water, "ose shalom bimromav", so we ask that we be healthy, that there would not be a dispute within the human body.

"Today, the Chofetz Chaim of this generation is Maran Rosh Hayeshiva, and what Maran instructs to do, is incumbent upon us as the imperative of our holy Torah, "ve'asisa kechol asher yorucha!"

He concluded his words with the question why in the Shabbos tefilla we devote a special prayer "ufros aleinu sukas sheloimecha" for Jerusalem, after having mentioned "al Yisroel" – for Yerushalayim is also included in this. But, especially in the city of Yerushalayim in which the Beis Hamikdash is, the Satan seeks to prosecute, and therefore we have that special prayer "ufros aleinu sukas sheloimecha"
