Horse on plate • sought seafood and received horse meat

Tel Aviv restaurant served horse meat to diners without informing them of it – the Haaretz reports.

According to the report, last Shabbos, L. came to the Turquoise restaurant with her partner, at the Sea & Sun Hotel in the city. They ordered a pie, chicken and seafood.

L. told Haaretz: "My partner was about to take a bite but then realized that there are pieces that look and smell very strange. We called the waiter and asked him if there is meat in the dish although it was not written in the description.
"The waiter told us that there was meat in the dish. We asked the waiter: Is this pork?' And the waiter told us, 'Not exactly.'

"At this point we were exasperated and asked: 'What is not exactly? Is it pork or not?' Then the waiter told us it was horse meat. We were shocked.

"A moment later the shift manager who worked there came and told us she was sorry. We asked her how there could be horse meat in the dish, although it does not appear on the menu. She continued to apologize and said that she had nothing to say except apologize.
