Precedent in Montreal: Mindy Pollack, a young Hasidic woman of 24, is running for a place in the city council of Outremont, Quebec.

Pollack worked as a salaried wig salon assistant, until she decided to be the first Orthodox Hasidic woman to run for city council.

Mindy defines her decision as "revolutionary" and defines herself as a representative of communication between the Haredi Jewish community and their and non-Jewish neighbors and "promises that if we focus on what unites us and gentile neighbors, instead of focusing on the differences, we can achieve."

Pollack, without political experience, fluent in English, Yiddish and French, became interested in public work when she participated in a demonstration held by non-Jewish residents against a synagogue which sought to expand the building.

The Orthodox community in the city defines her run as a 'anecdote' which has no chance, and prefer to ignore.
