Germany: Closest SS officer to Hitler died

One of the closest people to the Nazi oppressor Adolf Hitler died in Germany.

Rochus Misch, who served as the personal bodyguard of the Nazi oppressor, died on Thursday in Berlin at the age of 96.

Misch was the last witness of Hitler's last hours, before committing suicide in the bunker where he was staying.

Misch did not hide his past and was proud of it. In an interview in 2005 he said that "Hitler was a very normal person, not a monster."

Misch was born in 1917 in a small town which now belongs to Poland, at the age of 20 joined the SS and joined Hitler's security unit.

During the Second World War he fought in Warsaw, and was wounded by gunfire. After recovering he was chosen to be one of the two of Hitler's bodyguard.

In an interview he said: "Hitler was a great boss, I lived with him for five years. We were the people closest to him at work and he was always there. There was not a moment he was without us, day and night."
