A serious accident occurred on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, in front of the global Chabad Center on Eastern Parkway Avenue.

The incident took place on Thursday evening, around 19:00 pm, when hundreds made their way to Tashlich.

A black Hyundai car tried to turn to Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue and collided a white Infiniti car. The car veered onto the sidewalk and into a telephone pole and on its way smashed into two women, one 40 years old from Haifa, and the other 21 years old from Jerusalem, who were waiting for the traffic light.

An avrech, resident of Kfar Chabad, who was standing nearby, was wounded by iron shrapnel in his head.

Members of 'Hashomrim' alerted the rescue forces. The leg of the 40-year-old woman, mother of four, was amputated and a Hatzalah volunteer saved her life using a tourniquet which he installed from his belt.

All three of the injured are guests from Israel who came for the Yom Tov in New York. They were taken to the hospital. The two drivers of vehicles were also evacuated in a light condition.

The avrech who was wounded was discharged during Yom Tov. The two women remained hospitalized. The condition of the 21 year old girl from Jerusalem is very serious.
