Towards the new year, the Immigration Authority published data today (Monday) on the number of Israeli citizens, including those living abroad: 8,730,562 people on the eve of 5774 compared to 8,632,250 million people last year.

The figures also show that 160 749 babies were born in Israel last year, when the boys recorded a slight numerical advantage: In 5773, 82,437 boys were born, while the girls numbered 78,312.

The Central Bureau of Statistics show that 75.1 % of the Israeli population are Jews, while the Arab sector comprise 20.7 % of the population. Others - Christians, other religions and no religious affiliation - are 4.2 % of the population.

And some of the most common names given to those born in the past year?

Well, the boys' most popular name is Itay and the name Noah for girls.

In the boys' list other names are Daniel, Uri, Yosef and Noam, while among girls the names of Shira, Tamar, Talia and Yael.

In the past year 63,526 Israeli couples married, while 14,808 couples divorced.

And how many Olim were there this year? 16,968 Jews from around the Diaspora decided to move to the Holy Land.
