After countless rejections Council of Torah Sages of Agudath Yisrael convened today (Wednesday) afternoon in the executive of the Society of Israel, on Shomer Hakottel Street in Jerusalem
Days before the council meeting the Council Secretariat Rabbi Mordechai Stern a Vizhnitz chassid, went round and invited Rebbes to participate in the conference, after a month earlier the meeting did not take place since a few members were on vacation in Europe.
One after another came to the conference Rebbe of Gur, Belz and Vizhnitz brothers, Sanz, Boyan, Slonim, Biala, Sadagura and Moz'ditz.
Absent - due to weakness – the elderly Rebbe of Erloy and oldest member of the Presidency.
During the two and half hours of prolonged meeting a discussion on issues on the agenda was held, including budget cuts on the Torah world, intervention in education and recruitment of Orthodox yeshiva students.
Admorim voiced concern over the severe cuts in the Torah world and allowances for families with many children.
The participants also discussed ways to combat the recruitment danger hovering over the yeshiva world, and attempts of Orthodox education program intervention.
At the end of the discussion they also discussed the security situation and the dangers facing Israel these days.
At the end of the meeting, Knesset members of Agudath Yisrael entered: Yaakov Litzman, Meir Porush, Eliezer Moses and Yisrael Eichler, and reported to the council members on all the moves in the political field.
Constantly present in the room was Rabbi Mordechai Stern Council Secretary, who recorded the discussion and wrote a protocol as well as Bnei Brak Deputy Mayor Chanoch Zeibert.
Rabbi Yosef Kuperberg was absent, in contrast to previous conferences which he attended.
