New phenomenon: holding a Bris Milah for Israeli born babies in Uman, Ukraine , near the grave of R' Nachman of Breslov – close to Rosh Hashanah.
Previously, a person who had a son close to Rosh Hashanah, was in a dilemma: to attend the Bris Milah of his son, or travel to Uman? There were those who chose the second option, abandoned their son and appointed a shaliach to circumcise their son.
Today, many combine: the infants are flown to the place of the Bris Milah, and flown back to Israel.
For example, a picture that was sent to Behadrey Haredim shows a newborn baby , the son of David Dvash ( remembered from "the best David", who sued the insurance company for using his name as a slogan) making his way on a flight from Israel to Uman, where he had his Bris last year on Rosh Hashanah.
"The phenomenon is well known," says one of the leading chassidim of Breslov to Behadrey Haredim: "It's in their souls, and it's a zchus to conduct a Bris at R' Nachman - even on Rosh Hashanah. Understand," continued the man, "If to Rabbi Berland who's in exile in Morocco, people fly long hours to hold a Bris Milah, certainly they would go to Uman which is closer. And if there was a Msb"k who flew his baby to Austria for the Nadvorna Rebbe to be Sandak, surely that for R' Nachman one should do it."
But not everyone is happy with the phenomenon. One of the leaders of the Hasidus tells Behadrey Haredim: "To travel to Uman and abandon one's son and hold the Bris by means of a Shaliach - is understandable. But to bring the baby ? It is as silly act, this is a danger to the baby. The mother of the baby who comes there can not roam the place for modesty reasons and rabbis of Breslov are very much against it that women will travel to Uman."
