Undercover soldiers entangled in Qalandiya • Three Palestinians killed

Three Palestinians were killed in a confrontation with the IDF and Border Police in the Qalandiya refugee camp south of Ramallah, which began with an arrest operation by the forces.

15 other Palestinians were injured, six of them seriously. The Palestinian presidency condemned the killing of three.

An undercover force of Border Police arrived at the camp to arrest a wanted person. According to Palestinian reports, the power went into camp in two commercial vehicles carrying yellow license plates. The force was identified, and a conflict began, according to Police officials, with hundreds of Palestinians who attacked the troops, throwing stones and bricks at the soldiers. IDF force arrived to rescue the Border Police and the troops opened fire with rifle and live fire.

IDF officials stress that no complications occurred in the security forces action in Qalandia. After the wanted man was arrested a disturbance took place which the security forces acted to disband.

The IDF spokesman said that "during the nighttime activities of the security forces to arrest a wanted person in Qalandia, south of Ramallah, a violent riot developed of hundreds of Palestinians who attacked the forces. From first specifications, IDF forces which secured the operational force acted to rescue it, and sensing real danger to their lives, they opened fire at the attackers. Initial reports indicate that during the operation two Palestinians were killed and other Palestinians were wounded. The wanted, a terrorist, was arrested and transferred to security forces for questioning. Circumstances of the incident will be investigated."

Office of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said: "The Israeli chain of crimes and continued settlement constitute a clear message about the authenticity of its intentions regarding the peace process."

His spokesman added that these actions will have negative consequences and demanded from the U.S. government to intervene to prevent the collapse of international efforts regarding the peace process.

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah issued a harsh condemnation.

Last week, a Palestinian citizen was shot dead, Jenin Majed Lahlouh, 20, two others were seriously injured and two IDF soldiers were lightly injured during an arrest operation in the refugee camp in Jenin. IDF force from the Netzah Yehudah Battalion and Border Police came to Jenin for an arrest operation of Palestinians. During the activity, mass disturbances developed against the forces, which included dozens of Palestinians who began throwing stones, grenades and improvised explosive devices at the forces.

Another incident occurred early last month in the town of Dura in the south Hebron hills in which Nura Mu'ataz a Shrauna, 19 years old, was injured, he was taken to hospital in Hebron where he died of his wounds.
