The Mohel and Rabbi Avi Zarki continues to challenge conventions: on his Facebook page he wrote this morning (Monday) a short statement: "I support civil marriage."
Rabbi Avi Zarki, who serves as a mohel, is known for his ties with famous Israeli artists and entertainment stars. Using the social network, he makes extensive publication of his unconventional views.
Recently, he came out against the phenomenon of travelling to Uman for Rosh Hashana: "Ten thousand people shouting Shema Israel abroad is not uplifting," he wrote. "I call it 'Ecstasy' no more. Want real prayer? Get organized, bring a G-d fearing Hazan, true Rav who will talk actuality and not politics. Go to the holy yeshivos in Bnei Brak, see what a real yeshiva prayer is, everything else is the advice of the yetzer hora, period. "
Later, he published another post on the Facebook page with a clarification: "The original Breslov community, is a holy community which is not necessarily related to all those acting on its behalf for all kinds of goals and interests", but he still remains in his position that one should not travel to Uman.
Rabbi Zarki likes to cause virtual upheavals. During the Omer, he published a post: "I shave and get a haircut during the Omer." Only after a while he revealed that he does this because halachah permits a mohel to shave on the day of a Bris.
