Picnic in the plaza: Women of the Wall at Shabbos protest at the kottel

40 activities belonging to the organization 'Women of the Wall' opened last night (Sunday) a strike at the Western Wall. Organization's women are angry about the compromise proposal to them - by the Minister Naftali Bennett.

At 18:00 the women opened a strike which should take 24 hours. During the strike organization management companies sit at the Western Wall plaza, under the flags of Israel.

According to Minister Bennett's proposed arrangement, the women's and men's section will continue to be managed - by the 'Western Wall Heritage Foundation, and will be officially recognized as places of worship according to Jewish law only.

The new expansion, called Ezrat Yisrael, located south of the Mughrabi Gate is the size of about 450 square meters, and one can pray in it without distinction. Extension is intended only for prayer and prohibited its use for events such as weddings and circumcisions.

Women of the Wall said that they deny the entire new layout and will continue to pray at the women's section at the Kottel. According to them, they hang their load on Yair Lapid, who promised to act against religious coercion and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni.

Anat Hoffman, chairman of the Women of the Wall, "Naftali Bennett proved today he serves as rabbi of the Western Wall's Shofar and the chief rabbis and keeps up with the radical worldview of Israel at the expense of women. Not a few but deep chasm opened up today because of him between women and men and between Jew and Jew. Instead of leading to change and leading the Jewish world towards equality and pluralism, on Erev Rosh Hashana the Israeli government adopts a policy of segregation and exclusion of women, builds a sun terrace, remotely overlooking the Western Wall.

"We have no intention to pray there," she added. "We'll sit for 24 hours in the women's section. We'll sleep and eat there. Demonization of Women of the Wall did not agree to any solution - this is not true. We must not let thugs decide on policy."
