Orthodox representative for New York: fine bulletin boards distributors

David Greenfield, who represents the ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods for New York, decided to fight poster distributors. Greenfield turned during the weekend to the Director of Sanitation of New York and asked him to impose a heavy fine on the Printers and Distributors of posters.

A week ago neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Borough Park were flooded in thousands of posters, which led to hefty fines imposed on shopkeepers and homeowners where posters were scattered on the nearby sidewalk.

New York City Law fines every property owner who does not clean the sidewalk within his business. This is also repeated in Monsey and caused great tension between the non Jews living in the streets alongside the Jews.

Greenfield said that he would fight with all the means at its disposal to stop the phenomenon. "It is illegal and immoral to flood the streets with thousands of flyers, without any connection to the flyer. If you do not like something, you can stand on a street corner and shout all you want, but you cannot mess entire streets. This has caused financial harm to the residents who have to then clean the leaflets immediately or alternatively pay a high fine.

"I'm going to work intensively with the Sanitation Department and police departments and other municipal offices to bring an end to this ugly phenomenon that causes grief and desecration. Those responsible for distributing flyers will be punished to the fullest extent of the law," said Greenfield.

He announced that his office has lawyers working on municipal law legally prohibiting distributing flyers.
