American and British teams are busy creating a 'bank of targets' for an attack in Syria, given the growing evaluation that the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad was behind the chemical weapons attack last week – the British morning newspaper Sunday Times reports.

According to the report, in a phone conversation yesterday by U.S. President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron, they considered "a serious response", including military action in Syria.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Defense Chuck Hagel, announced that the Pentagon is ready to carry out a military strike in Syria if President Obama chooses to.

The teams began to formulate possible military plans, including the choice of bombing targets, although a decision has not yet been reached whether the Western powers would intervene directly in the civil war in Syria.

According to a report in the Sunday Times, U.S. defense officials said that one outline considered is the method of air attacks, as the United States performed in 1999 in Kosovo. Other options being considered are arming the rebels and creating a restricted flight zone in Syria.

Tomorrow a meeting of top security officials from Western powers is expected to take place in Jordan, when the subject of possible military action in Syria will be the focus of the meeting.

Israeli security officials said this morning that Israel is not involved in any military action planned in Syria, but on the other hand they believe that if the Americans decide to attack - they will keep the Israelis updated to know to prepare for extreme possibilities of Syrian response.

Meanwhile, a Reuters poll published on Wednesday in the U.S. indicates that most Americans oppose military intervention in the civil war in Syria, even if the reports on the use of chemical weapons is validated. According to the survey, 60 percent responded that the United States should not intervene in the civil war in Syria. 9% only thought President Barack Obama should act.

If it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the Assad regime used chemical weapons against the rebels, the percentage supporting the action rises to 25%, but the percentage of those opposed stays 46%.
