Emanuel Affair #2? Parents of three 6 year old girls who tried to get their daughters accepted to the Neot Rachel School of the Chinuch Atzmai on Hill B in Beitar Illit - were refused, on the grounds that they are not suitable for the educational line of the school, in which there are girls from Litvishe and Hasidic homes alike.
We emphasize that the story has no connection to racism, while indeed the two girls are Sefardi, but the third is from a Hasidic family. The principal of the School itself is Rebbetzin Korach, daughter in law of Rabbi Shlomo Korach, Rav of Bnei - Brak.
After one parent from the group complained to the Ministry of Education, the ministry ordered the school principal to immediately accept the girls, otherwise – it will not allow the opening of the school year.
From here things began to roll as a snowball, with the result: damage to the school itself.
Many parents from Slonim in Beitar Illit send their children to this school, since the school is called Neot Rachel named after Rebbetzin Rachel a"h, wife of the Rebbe. Other Hasidic girls learn at a general Hassidic school in the city. Parents we spoke with said that the fact that Slonim girls learn in the school, contributed to its good name.
Following the provisions of the Ministry of Education - the Slonimer Rebbe sent a messenger to R' Aharon Leib Steinman, to receive his backing of action against the Ministry of Education.
Surprisingly R' Aharon Leib said that now our way is not to confront the authorities. R' Aharon Leib also added that one can accept the girls and try to educate and raise them on track, and if the administration will see that they failed – they can always make the move and dismiss them.
The result: The school opened its doors today, but families from Slonim were instructed directly by the Rebbe to remove their daughters from the school and transfer them these days to the Klal – Hassidic school.
In our conversation with one of the parents, he expressed surprise why the parents of the three students persist and do not enroll their daughters in a more modern school - and such exists in the city. In his opinion, "For Slonim itself this would be better, because the Hasidic school's students have a much better quality." The one who would lose from the move, in his opinion and many parents is the school, is the Chinuch Atzmai school.
In a conversation with an official at the Ministry of Education, who received the parents' complaints, he says that the school has an admissions committee formed by activists who force themselves on the school board. He said the commission is working against the instructions of admissions of the Ministry of Education. "After all these are young girls of 6, who are already faced with the difficulties of acceptance," he says.
Sources in the Ministry of Education, the Ministry's instructions regarding acceptance of students persists.
