Rabbi Eliyahu Reese, Rabbi of Birubidzhen, the Jewish autonomy established by Stalin a nine-hour flight from Moscow to the capital, which also serves as an emissary of Chabad in the city and every county, left this morning (Friday) to the nearby town of Pashkuba to help dozens of Jewish families whose homes were flooded and destroyed by the rains and floods in the past week. Storm damaged hundreds of people and destroyed thousands of homes.
Over the last week large amounts of clothes and food were handed out by the Association of Jewish Communities of Russia, following the Jewish families affected by the great floods.
Number of trucks loaded with food and clothes, traveling from city to city, and by Jewish communities and a team of Rabbi Reese – handed out aid to the Jewish families, many of whom remain clothes less and penniless.
President Vladimir Putin is expected to reach the region next week, in order to closely examine the damage and decide on methods of government assistance for families.
According to forecasters, the water level in the flooded areas should begin to decline starting tomorrow, but meanwhile heavy rains are still coming down in many parts of the region.
In the nearby city of Habrovsk floods began last night in the city streets. Rabbi of the city and Chabad Rabbi Yaakov Sntikov already received from the FJC food and supplies for distribution to thousands of Jewish families in the city.
