Harsh testimonies in Syria: President Bashar al-Assad attacked civilians with chemical weapons. According to reports from opposition sources, about five hundred people were killed in an attack by chemical weapons performed at dawn.
The attack allegedly took place in three villages in the south-east of Damascus: Ein Terba, Jubal and Zamalka.
Doctors in hospitals in this region estimated that sarin was gas used. In Zamalka village there are dozens of injured children and dead bodies in the streets. Hospitals report on childcare difficulties and lack of equipment.
The attack occurred during a UN team investigating the use of chemical weapons found on Syrian soil.
Activists posted a video documenting they said the victims of that attack. Videos, whose reliability cannot be assessed, medical personnel are seen trying to treat dozens of injured sprawled on the floor of a building.
A few hours after first reported attacks, state television quoted a source as saying that "there is not a shred of truth" in reports. He said the rebel claims are intended to distract the UN inspectors situated in their task.
