Mouse spawned a mountain: Orthodox soldier attackers in Meah Shearim - a month ago, went out with a light sentence.
Prosecution decided to delete most of the charges against Yosef Brown and Yaakov Krichevsky, arrested while attacking the soldier in Meah Shearim last month and charged with assaulting a police officer under harsh circumstances.
Prosecution it turns out, was afraid that despite affidavits of police who testified against them, these could not identify the defendants clearly on the stand.
Due to that an agreement was reached with the prosecution that the two will acknowledge rioting. All other charges alleged they had thrown stones and bottles and police interference, will be deleted.
The soldier, a Baal Teshuva, came to visit his uncle who lives in the neighborhood of Meah Shearim. Passersby called him "chardak", and threw a garbage bag.
The soldier escaped to his uncle's office, locked himself in place and called for police. With the arrival of the police at the scene, residents rioted violently and attacked the officers.
Jerusalem District Attorney's office said that "consideration underlying the arrival plea bargain was a consideration in evaluating the evidence related to the identification of the defendant as attacking a police during riots."
