On way out from Knesset? Zoabi to contend in Nazareth

In recent years MK Hanin Zoabi became one of the most controversial figures on the political map, it now seems that she may leave her place in the Knesset and replace it with the municipality of Nazareth.

According to sources from the Zoabi family, the Balad MK is expected to announce today at a press conference her running for mayor. Rumors of Zoabi's intention to run for the city swarmed recently and now it seems she has made the decision.

In a conversation with News 2 on the internet, MK Zoabi said that she has not decided yet whether to hold a formal press conference, but did not deny her intentions. "I am seriously considering to declare the run," she said.

The Nazareth election campaign is surging in recent weeks, following the deputy of the current mayor who announced his retirement from 'Hadash' and also his intention to run for the top job in the city. Meanwhile, the incumbent Mayor Ramez Je'raysi has not yet announced whether he intends to run for mayor again.

Zoabi, who was born in the city of Nazareth, burst upon the scene in recent years, mainly due to her participation in the flotilla "Marmara" to Gaza, following a series of provocative statements that have made her one of the best known figures in the Knesset.
