Florida: the earth opened up and swallowed half the villa

Sinkhole in central Florida swallowed yesterday (Tuesday), a villa resort.

The incident occurred in Clermont resort which is not far from Disneyland.

Fire station commander said that at three in the morning the fire dispatcher received a call from the hotel on the explosive sound of glass windows in the building and crashing one after another.

"As soon as we arrived we evacuated twenty of the people who were in the villa," he said, "we started looking for the cause and indeed we found a gas leak, but whilst fixing the leak facilities we felt how one side of the building tends to the side and quickly sinking into the ground.

"It split in half and threatened to collapse," said Fire Chief.
Maggie Ghamri, a guest, told ABC News: "I heard strange noises in the corridor of the building and it began to shake, power cut off and glass shattered."

The event happened six months after a sinkhole swallowed a different region of Florida, and swallowed a man sleeping in his bed, his body was never found.

The resort is described as a luxury resort which extends over a large area and is located near a river.
