Resident of Nazareth tried to kill the wife of Rabbi Zamir Cohen

Northern District Prosecutor's Office, represented by attorney Ruth Spielberg - Cohen, filed today in Nazareth District Court an indictment against Rochi Saleh, 25, a resident of Nazareth, for the offenses of attempted murder, one in which the residential aggravated unlawful possession of a knife and obstruction of trial.

According to the facts of the indictment on Thursday 18th Av, where the accused person himself gave himself the goal of murdering one of the hotel guests at Golden Crown Nazareth.

At around 20:00 the defendant came to the hotel, carrying his knife, went into the hotel while jumping over the fence, and later entered into the hotel building.

At the time, in one of the rooms on the second floor, the complainant (one of the hotel guests) - The wife of Rabbi Zamir Cohen, chairman of the organization Hidabrut in her forties, a mother of eight, was lying on the bed in the room. The connecting door to the next room, where the children of the complainant were was open, and the children went into the hotel and left the children's bedroom door open.

The defendant went upstairs, came to the open door of the nursery, saw through the connecting door, the complainant in her room on the bed. The defendant went to the nursery, closed the door from the inside by using the lock button, so as not to be interrupted whilst carrying out his plan, and wiped his fingerprints off the door handle.

The accused entered the complainant's bedroom, lying on the bed, and asked her if she is alone. Complainant, surprised by the presence of the strange man in her room, got out of bed, and the defendant immediately pounced on her and began to stab her with a knife over and over various parts of her body. Complainant fell and the defendant continued to stab her head and body.

The defendant took the electric kettle in the room and hit her repeatedly, while on the floor, her head and upper body. In addition even hit the complainant with a ceramic cup in the room and broke it during his actions.

The complainant tried to protect herself, and in doing so, cut her hands with the knife. The complainant also tried to cry for help at full strength, and the defendant continued to stab her and beat her more and more.

At one point, when she realized the complainant will beat her up until she dies, she stopped yelling, lay motionless on the floor and pretending to be dead. Only then did the defendant leave, left the room using the balcony, jumped to the lower balcony of a room on the first floor, then jumped by leaps from balcony to balcony and fled to the open area near the hotel.

While fleeing, as noted, the defendant threw the knife in the bushes. When he arrived home several hours after the passage of the act, the defendant took the blood stained clothes, packed them in a bag, which he threw in his neighbor's yard, so as not to be detected and use them against him for his action.

The complainant was treated in hospital Haemek and then transferred to Rambam hospital.

The prosecution asked the court to detain the defendant until the end of the legal proceedings against him.

"The terrorist saw a woman who is alone in a room and immediately punched her savagely with a knife in her head, hands and upper body," Rabbi Zamir Cohen said in an interview to Hidabrut, "when the result is more than twenty cuts, besides punching with an electric kettle and other objects verifying killing.

"Initially doctors thought she needed two surgeries, one of which is so complicated she was taken to another hospital for surgery, but amazingly after two days it turned out that she does not need any surgery and she was discharged home. We thank Hashem that the terrorist could not carry out his plans and her recovery was rapid, and she has been insisting to be active in household arrangements, apart from a deep cut in one hand which makes it difficult to function. Certainly her merits and many sacrifices for the sake of Israel for years, stood up for her in these difficult times.

Reporting of the assault came to the Rabbi on Thursday, 18th Av, while he gave the weekly sermon in the synagogue in Ramat Aviv. For the first time in his life he left in the middle of class, and rushed to the hospital where his wife was evacuated.

A week later, at his shiur in Ramat Aviv, told the audience about the cause of his departure.

"I wanted to thank God for the miracle he did with us," said the Rabbi a week later, at Ramat Aviv. "I was informed that my wife was in a hotel room, and an Arab who entered attacked her with a knife and punched her. At first they said she needed two surgeries, but she healed. So I want to thank Hashem for the miracle we had in my family. This Sunday, she was released and came home, and now functioning, except for a cut in her hand. We must thank Hashem.

"I also wanted to apologize for leaving. It never happened in my life that I walked out in the middle of a lecture. Public's right here stood there. According to nature, the police themselves say it does not make sense - he left her only when he was sure she was not alive. We could define this as a miracle, considering that this is a man leaving the house with a knife in order to murder."
