Drama in Shuvu Banim: Seven detainees - including seniors of community

Policemen and spys from the central unit of the police - arrested this morning (Monday) seven haredim, six of them residents of Beitar Illit and one from Mea Shearim in Jerusalem. The seven are suspected that during the past few months they engaged in money laundering of hundreds of thousands of shekels, and fraud related to assets and funds of an institution in the city.

Most of them are seniors in the Shuvu Banim kehilla. They were interrogated for many hours at the offices of the central unit. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

Four of the seven detainees were taken in the afternoon to the District Court in Jerusalem, to discuss extending their detention. The other three still under investigation. Among them – a Bobov woman who is a CPA.

Last week, Behadrey Hredim revealed a document of the Corporations Authority in the Ministry of Justice, which reveals that the organization which belonged to some of the detainees belong, there are serious irregularities and it faces liquidation. The document was sent by the Ministry of Justice Corporations Authority, entitled "denial of proper management approval and notification before breaking down." Serious suspicions were laid down in the letter for the use of threats and realizing the assets of the association illegaly. The document noted that according to the applicants claim, they acted with a series of serious acts within the association.

So far it is not clear if the arrests are related to allegations set forth in the document.

One should note that there is no connection between this investigation and the investigation being conducted against the community leader Rabbi Berland himself – in another unit.
