Today (Monday) it was cleared for publication that detectives and investigators in the central minority department, in cooperation with Shalem station policemen, arrested a 31-year-old Arab resident of Silwan suspected of stabbing a Jewish man in Bloomfield Park, attempting to stab a young haredi man near the Old City, and the stabbing of a young Arab at Damascus Gate.
The suspect, who was arrested after three events that occurred in succession, had bound himself to them, but does not admit to them.
Police believe that the background to the stabbing is not nationalistic.
The investigation revealed that on seventeenth Av this year, a religious Jew, in his fifties, a resident of the city, entered the bathrooms in Bloomfield, when suddenly the suspect attacked him with a knife and stabbed him several times.
The suspect fled after stabbing in the direction of the Old City. On his way he met a young haredi man sitting on a bench and tried to stab him too. The haredi man objected and a fight erupted between the two. The Jew took a stone from the ground, threw it at the suspect and fled.
Having arrived at the Damascus Gate, a fight broke out between him and another young Arab. The suspect stabbed the Arab man and policemen from the Shalem station who were called to the scene, arrested the suspect.
The suspect was taken for interrogation, during which it was suspected, according to the description given by both the Jews and the description of the knife he drew at them, that this is the same suspect who stabbed the young Arab at Damascus Gate. He was transferred for investigation to the squad minority department for further investigation and after an intensive investigation he tied himself to the events.
A lineup was made for the suspect and he was identified by two victims. The suspect's clothing had blood stains on them which during testing, it became clear that these are bloodstains of the Jewish man who was stabbed in the public bathrooms.
