"There are those who forced the public to remain silent against front decrees," the Satmar Rebbe attacked Haredi leaders in Israel.
Satmar Rebbe spoke during the hillula of his uncle the Rebbe the Divrei Yoel of Satmar zt"l, held in the Great Hall of the Beit Midrash in Kiryat Yoel.
First, the Rebbe spoke about the deceased. "I remember my uncle.", opened the Rebbe and said, "standing in his home and alerting, as even I've said many times: the time will come when boys will not be able to live and learn Torah in peace in the Holy Land. Indeed sixty years have passed since, but things are well engraved in my memory.
"Indeed, today we got to this situation. They in the Holy Land passed a new law in recruiting the yeshiva students, in order to mobilize the students to the impure army. This is very terrible decree aimed at uprooting the religion and the Torah in the Holy Land."
And here the Rebbe said: "The biggest problem is that people do not feel this is the purpose of the decree. Therefore, there is a huge public of Klal Yisrael which remains silent and does not go to protest. And besides that, if someone wants to shout and protest, there are those who seek to silence them.
"We'll try to think a bit. If my uncle whose hillula it is was alive in our time, what would he do? He would shake the world in light of the decree. But today? They are silent and force others to remain silent!"
Here the Rebbe attacked the core curriculum decree and expressed concern about caving of institutions managers: "They want to cut benefits for those who don’t teach core curriculum. The problem is not the cuts, as if they just cut back then fine. The real problem is that administrators will not bear the test and will continue to receive funds and the school will introduce these studies in all institutions. Initially, it will go with a compromise, half and third and a quarter, but I fear that in the end all institutions will learn all core curriculum programs.
"How much Ruach Hakodesh existed in the words of the Baal hillula, who argued that the government did not allocate funds for free for the education institutions? They will initially give budgets, but then demand to show any consideration to those budgets. Let's see how big the words of the wise and the Baal hillula who cried from the bottom of his heart that the wickedness of the Zionists, does not know borders, and it is clear that their goal is to just to uproot religion. Whoever dreamed that in the Holy Land will give prison orders for Jews who want to learn Torah."
The Rebbe also addressed the large rally held in Manhattan a few weeks ago to protest the recruitment decree and expressed displeasure that the local Orthodox Judaism, did not connect shoulder to shoulder to demonstrate: "A few weeks ago, thousands of Am Yisrael went out to the city's streets to cry out and declare that "all Israel will not sleep and would not rest in light of such shear. But I have to admit and say in pain, that if we had won, hundreds of thousands of Jews would have participated. Klal Yisrael numbers sufficiently large amounts of the U.S. population, and such a decree had to bring hundreds of thousands and increase respect of God, if it was really painful for everyone."
Here the Rebbe promised that the last word has not been said: "I want to say and declare to you, that the demonstration was just the beginning. We will continue to act any way that we have to, until this terrible decree is canceled."
