Lakewood: Fox who bit girl contaminated with rabid

Fox that bit on Shabbos afternoon a three year old orthodox girl from Lakewood, and was shot dead by police - was rabid. These are the results of the test conducted by the local health office.

The girl went for a walk with her sister on Shabbos, and was rushed to a local hospital with her arm ripped by a fox bite.

Health Ministry confirmed that veterinary laboratory tests conducted by the Health Ministry show that the fox was rabid. He added that foxes are afraid of people, and the fact that the fox attacked the child, although she had not challenged him, raised the fear the fox was rabid.

"As soon as we received the results, we started preventative treatment for the injured girl - Treatment will last 14 days. During this time of the year when it is unusually warm weather, we find rabid animals tend to bite humans.

"This time of the year more people are out in the nature. In the beginning of 2013 were found 14 cases of rabies in animals, but we speculate that there is more".

The Ministry of Health has repeatedly warned the public in Lakewood and the surrounding area to be vigilant of aggressive behavior of an animal and call the police. In the case of the biting of an animal, wash the area immediately with plenty of water and contact your doctor or emergency room.
