Core curriculum? Hgr"ch in a letter: "stay away from foreign studies"
Will changes in the budget incorporate core curriculum? • Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky in a harsh letter: "Talmud Torah schools which added foreign studies – every anxious father must keep his sons away from them"

Haredi education painful cuts approved in the new budget, and which are designed in part to force core studies, led to a sharp letter of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky against these studies.
"Whatever Talmud Torah has now changed to add foreign studies and other changes it is the duty of the father to his sons to keep them away. It is ones duty to teach his son Torah, but generally the way it is handed down from generation to generation," writes Rabbi Chaim.
The letter, titled 'Torah knowledge', which is published today (Tuesday) in Yated Ne'eman, "writes Rabbi Chaim the following:" Rambam: a father must teach his son Torah and the Shulchan Aruch, the mitzvah is to teach ones child Torah, but one does not fulfill the obligation unless its taught in the handed down from generation to generation.
"And now we have Talmud Torah schools who have added foreign studies and changes, it is mandatory for every father, in every city, anxious to his sons, to keep them away."
Recall, at the end of the month of Adar this year Hgray"l Steinman wrote a scathing letter to the Talmud Torah directors, with the call to "stand like a fortified wall and not change an inch from the path of our education which we have educated until now."
In the letter then he wrote: "To all Talmud Torah directors, the education of our children has been handed down from generation to generation since Avraham Aveinu until today, and that is what guards us, and they come today to intervene and demand that we change our studies by adding extra hours of foreign studies, and threaten us by changing the budget, they should look first at themselves at the success of their education.
"Therefore the Talmud Torah directors should stand stonewalled and not change an inch of education that we received and educated today. And we hope we can continue to teach our children until the arrival of Mashiach without any change. All for maintaining the pure education of the children of Israel.
