Victory celebrations at the homes of Hgr"o Yosef in Har Nof and Hgr"d in Modiin: the end of an exhausting day and harsh race and full of passion were selected Hgr"d Lau and Hgr"y Yosef as Chief Rabbis of Israel.
Rishon Lezion position was won by Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef who received 68 votes. Second place went to Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu with 49 votes, and in last place Hgr"tz Boaron with 28 votes. Two envelopes were empty.
Ashkenazi Rabbi was won by Rabbi David Lau, Rabbi of Modiin, with 68 votes. Rabbi David Stav was content with 54 votes, while Hagaon Shapiro received only 25 votes.
On publication of the results Orthodox activists who broke into song.
Victory celebrations at Hgr"o Yosef's home. The Rabbi greeted his son and said, "Rabbi Yitzhak is everyone's Rabbi."
Deri also congratulated the elected rabbi and thanked MK Ariel Atias, rabbis, Rabbi Moshe Yosef, Rabbi Avraham Yosef, Rabbi David Yosef, Rabbi Yehuda Deri, Rabbi Bakshi Doron and Rabbi Eliyahu Abergel. He didnt mention: Eli Yishai and Rabbi Amar.
On his Facebook page Aryeh Deri wrote: "After upheaval at the Chief Rabbinate, thank God two rabbis have been selected who received the backing of all the Gedolei Yisrael who understood that for this role rabbis should be selected who will soar public confidence in this precious institution.
"Chief Rabbinate should be a magnet for the general public. Election of Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, a Torah genius and mild mannered, along with Rabbi David Lau who is descended from a rabbinical family, no doubt answer this need. Congratulations!!!"
Even victory celebrations at Rabbi David Lau's home in Modiin in the presence of his father and many acquaintances. The Prime Minister called to congratulate as well as a long line of personalities and politicians.
MK Yisrael Eichler of Yahadut Hatorah, who was part of the electoral body, welcomed the rabbis selected and commented: "proved again that despite the occupation to reform the judiciary and the government of evil, the people chose Rabbis supported by the sages of Israel. Their power is greater than any atrocity propaganda against the law. "
MK Yaakov Asher added that "the decision of the electoral college consisting of rabbis, religious and secular public, proved that one doesn’t have to be in ruler ship and no deals are necessary for worthy rabbis to be selected as the Chief Rabbinate."
