Dramatic night (Monday), at the Knesset.

Science Minister Yaakov Perry rose to present the burden equality law formulated by the committee he headed – at the Knesset plenum. The Minister presented the main points of the law and made it clear: "We are interested in a gradual process; we do not want civil war."

Speech was followed by Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, who said that had he been able to get the haredim out to the labor market without any military service he would have done so.

During the presentation of the law MK Zahava Galon began to call out at Bennett and attacked the Hesder Yeshivas.

In response Bennett said, "I am proud of the Hesder Yeshivas, which has the highest percentage of combat service in the country. Do not preach to me about the Hesder Yeshivas."
Bennett said that "Torah study is service. Am Yisrael has existed thousands of years thanks to the study of Torah or Torah study without which we would not be here."

Opposition leader Shelly Yachimovitz rose to speak and criticized the law because of the postponement of implementation and additional reasons, but announced she would support it.

No less than 66 MKs registered to speak during the hearing, and is expected to last until the morning hours.

At the opening of the discussion, Orthodox Knesset members retired from the plenum and gathered to recite Selichot prayers and Tehillim. Part of the Selichot was recited in nusach Ashkenaz and part in nusach Sephard.

At the end of Selichot Porush blew the shofar and MKs continued with singing.

Hgray"l Steinman devoted himself to reciting Tehillim tonight. Grandson of Rabbi Steinman visited him in the evening and asked why he looked so tired. Hgray"l explained that he is not sleeping because of the law is to recruit yeshiva students.
