The original list of Righteous Among the Nations, Oskar Schindler, one that helped save 801 Jewish workers from being transfered to Auschwitz, opened for auction on Friday at 4:00 am Israel time.
The starting price of the auction was set at three million dollars (10.7 million shekels).
It is one of four rare copies of the list printed in 1945 and is spread over 14 pages. One of the copies served Steven Spielberg while working on the film, Academy Award winner for 1993.
Collectors purchased the historic document from the nephew of Isaac Stern, Schindler's accountant, whose family held the document over the years in Israel. To the original list is attached an affidavit signed by the nephew whose evidence is credible.
Gary Zimet and Eric Gazin, a pair of collectors who live in California, told the New York Post that they believe the document's final price will be $ 5 million. "We decided to sell the list on eBay because the site has 100 million members worldwide," they explain, "This is a story on a global scale."
Potential buyers will have to go through an initial screening stage to get the right deal in the historic center. The filter will determine the nature of gazinauctions who manage the sale. The proposals may be submitted until 4:00 am on July 28.
