A palace of King David was discovered in the ancient site of "Khirbat Kiefe" near Beit Shemesh.

In the ancient site "Khirbet Kiefe" which is known as the biblical city of She'arayim near Beit Shemesh, archaeologists of the Hebrew University and the Israel Antiquities Authority identified a large building which was identified with certainty as the palace of David, King of Israel.

This is a large building, about one thousand square meters in area, built in the city center and overlooking the Ella valley.

According to archaeologists, it has been proven beyond any doubt that the palace was built during the reign of King David and on the site swords, daggers and arrowheads, a metal casting facility and many pottery vessels were found.

The city is known as a central fortress which was used to protect against the Philistines. A few years ago a rare an inscription in ancient Hebrew, also dating to the days of King David, was found on the site.

The Israel Antiquities Authority and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority seek to declare the site a "National Park". If this happens, the construction of a residential neighborhood in the area will be stopped, and development plans for Ramat Beit Shemesh will change.
