An Israeli passport holder who wanted to book a flight on Saudi Airlines was refused, as Bill D. Blasio, a politician who is running for mayor of New York, related this week.

One of his employees phoned a travel agent of the company and asked to purchase a ticket from Kennedy Airport to Mumbai, India. The agent confirmed the flight and requested passenger information. At some point the agent asked the identity of the passport holder, and when he learned that the customer has an Israeli passport, he asked the passenger if he is equipped with another passport of a country other than Israel. When the passenger replied in the negative, the agent said that the ticket is not confirmed and that Israeli passport holders are not able to fly with Saudi Arabian Airlines.

De Blasio filed a complaint against Saudi Airlines with the Administration of the United States and sent a letter of protest to the Saudi airline.

His people are currently looking at other airlines that fly to the Middle East in order to determine which are discriminating against Israelis: "We can not accept discrimination against Israeli passport holders, they are the best allies that the United States has", he said, "We will not rest until the matter reaches Washington and Albany. U.S. law prohibits airlines flying to or from the U.S. to discriminate against passengers on the basis of nationality, religion or race."
