In November millions of New Yorkers will go out to vote for mayoral candidate on behalf of New York. Republican and Democratic primaries are underway - to be held during the ten days of repentance, so party members will decide which of the candidates will run for election on their behalf.
Democratic party who has significant strength in New York, sends no fewer than ten candidates to deal. According to the party laws only the candidate who sweeps forty percent of the vote, may continue the race. Since this is a ten deal, most likely none of them will win the percentage required and the parties will hold a second round - which was supposed to take place during Sukkot.
Two years ago, a new digital voting system was designed for office parties, to facilitate the counting of votes. So far, they have used old voting patterns - click on voter's voting machine and printed name of the candidate and accepted by the system. This was not a vote manually, as is customary in Israel, but it was still a relatively old system. But also that the new system had failed, and sometimes problems arose that delayed the count for many weeks.
New York State Governor, Andrew Como, examined the effectiveness of the system, and weighed the fact that thousands of ultra-Orthodox are expected to vote in the primary, has received two precedential decisions: first, returning the old vote. This is due to the unsuccessful pilot and non-impressive performance of the new system; perform regression by lack of choice and voting using old machinery.
Another important decision concerns the ultra-Orthodox. In order to take their needs into account the second round of voting will be postponed, and it will take place after Sukkot. Actual mayoral elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2014.
