Real drama occurred when last night (Saturday) the U.S. grand jury acquitted a private guard named George Zimmerman, in the killing of 17 young African called Tribon Martin. Credit hours employed by the American media, was enough to reach even the desk of President Obama.
Some background: A year and a half ago in February the Patrol of a local security in a closed residential neighborhood in the Florida town of Sanford. The volunteer is a resident, a fair-skinned, and not Jewish. While wandering he met a young black man, his movements aroused the suspicion and stopped him for a routine check. Between the two an argument developed, which soon turned into violence. The volunteer, who felt threatened at one point, took the weapon in his possession and shot the youngster, and the latter collapsed and died.
The volunteer was immediately arrested by police called to the scene. The media which dealt with manslaughter, managed to turn it from criminal into nationalism, and the volunteer was accused of attacking and eliminating a black in cold blood. Even President Obama had his way and criticized that the murder took place because he said the young man was black.
The volunteer was detained until the end of proceedings. Yesterday, he was brought before the court hearing in front of a jury. After they have heard the arguments and the reasons of the category and the defense, the jury decided that the motivated volunteer acted out of defensive and therefore he is innocent and has to his credit a charge of murder.
It is doubtful whether the jury was aware of the demons dance which will take place following the ruling. President Obama criticized the outrageous ruling, he said. Also communication channels followed suit and joined the chorus of incitement stating that if this were the case reversed, the black kills a white the defendant would not be acquitted.
At the same time, two demonstrations were held in Manhattan, attended by hundreds of black and white, protesting the racist opinion ruling. The demonstrations have created huge traffic jams in the metropolitan area.
At this point, the prosecution has not yet said its last word. It is likely that following the commotion is subject to appeal and will roll to the doorstep of the Supreme Court.
